The 2014 Canadian Trap Championships (June 23 - 29) will be hosted by Club L'Acaide (Quebec).

The club is located just southeast of Montreal.  Approximately 35 minutes from the New York I-87 border crossing.

I'm not involved with holding the shoot, but visit the club almost monthly in the warm weather months.   As a frequent New York visitor to Canada (shoot both in Ontario and Quebec) I'm very familiar with crossing the border with firearms from the American perspective and maybe I can use this outlet to get the word out on what it takes for an American to shoot in Canada.

- US shooters will need either a Passport or Passport Card  (Driving Only) or Enhanced Drivers License (Driving Only) to re-enter the USA.  An enhanced drivers license is issued by many states and less expensive then a Passport.  One or the other is a must have.  Don't confuse the enhanced drivers license with your standard issue license.  They are different.  Contact your motor vehicle department!

* Passport card cost $55.  Good for 10 years.

- Prior to DEPARTING the USA, process a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Form 4457 and list all firearms. You can process the form at any time prior to crossing the border (at any location).  Does not take a lot of time, but they will check your serial number(s).  Don't take the firearm into the building unless asked.  If you live near an International Airport, the people working there can sign off on the form.  The form is available for download.  If you have an old one with the firearm listed and the form is readable, it's still valid as they don't expire!

- A Canadian "Nonresident Firearm Declaration" must be in your possession. The declaration is available at all border crossings (and processed day of crossing), but can be Emailed to you and filled out prior to arrival.  The declaration is good for 60 days. It cost $25 Canadian, paid at point of entry (credit cards accepted).  Each shooter must have one, no sharing!  NO HANDGUNS...

- Import up to 1,500 rounds duty free for use at a recognized competition.

- Plan on two hours to cross the border.  Unlikely at many crossing (depends on holiday traffic and time of day), but something that needs to be planned for.

If anyone has any questions on visiting Canada or Club L'Acaide to attend shoot feel free to contact me or post here!

Don't forget, if visiting from the states, a Passport, Passport Card, or Enhanced Drivers license is required to return to the USA.
